Student of the Month -- July 2005!!
Miguel Colon, 13
E Dan, Korean Martial Arts Institute
1. How long has the student been training in the WTSDA?
Miguel began training when he was only five years old.
2. How does the student assist around the dojang?
He has been a SWAT team member since age 8. He participates in all demos for Region 8 Tournaments as well as in school demonstrations. He also belongs to our leadership team.
3. Why should this student be considered for this honor?
He is an outstanding student and enjoys helping others. Miguek has achieved much over the years both academically and in the martial arts. He also recently passed his test for E Dan.
Miguel is enrolled in the leadership program at our studio and demonstrates fine leadership abilities. He is always eager to assist in instructing other students and is well liked by his peers.
4. List any activies/accomplishments outside of the dojang:
Miguel has been an honor student since grade 3, and has received many Grandmaster awards through the Association. He has been in the Gifted & Talented Program in school also since 3rd grade.
He received the President of the United States Education Award in recognition of outstanding academic excellence. He has also received the Excellence through Education Award for his distinguished academic achievement.
His most recent academic challenge came when the John Hopkins University recognized him for taking his college SATs at only 12 years of age. Our of 500 high school students ranked, Miguel was 400. He has also successfully completed, with high scores, a Spatial Test Battery, which places him in an outstanding position for his math and verbal skills.
5. Any other information we should know about this student?
Miguel would like to become an instructor some day. He has the utmost respect for Master Roman and would like to become a Master just like him.

Questionnaire
As a new addition to the WTSDA Kids Zone section of the web site, we would like to implement a Student of the Month, acknowledging students from all over the globe who always put forth 110% effort and help out when they can. In order to be nominated for this section, students must be aged 18 or younger. Rank is not an issue members from white belt through Sam Dan are eligible. Nominated students must train consistently at a WTSDA sanctioned studio and hold an official WTSDA membership number. A person may nominate themselves or be nominated by a parent, peer or instructor. The entire questionnaire below must be filled out for the nominee to be considered.
